What to Expect
At the beginning of your treatment, one of our skilled physician assistants will first cleanse and numb the treatment areas with a topical or injected anesthetic to maximize comfort. VOLUMA will then be injected with a thin needle into the cheekbones, chin, or jawline. There is usually a mild pinching sensation during the injections. To add chin definition and sharpness to the jawline, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is injected directly into the chin area. It temporarily adds volume to the chin to help balance and add definition to your chin. Lidocaine helps to improve the comfort of the injection by reducing sensitivity to pain. The treatment process typically takes less than an hour and requires little to no downtime.
After treatment, temporary swelling, bruising, or redness is normal and will fade within a few days. Patients are typically able to resume their regular activities immediately following VOLUMA injections. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and applying pressure to the treated areas for 1-2 days. While VOLUMA injections provide instant subtle volume, final results are visible after about 2 weeks when swelling has completely subsided. Individual results last 12-24 months, sometimes longer, based on the amount injected. Follow-up treatments will be needed to sustain results.
Risks & Side Effects of Dermal Filler Injectables
Side effects for dermal fillers are usually mild and temporary, resolving themselves in as little as a few days to a couple of weeks. Tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising are common immediately following the procedure. Other common side effects include:
- Redness
- Itching
- Infection
- Skin rash
- Nodules (rare)
- Allergic reaction (rare)
- Vascular occlusion (rare)
