PRP Hair Restoration
What to Expect
During a PRP hair treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate platelet-rich plasma from the blood. This platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors and proteins that promote hair follicle health and stimulate new hair growth.
The area of the scalp being treated is numbed with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Using a very small needle, the doctor will inject the PRP in a systematic pattern throughout the thinning area. Patients may feel some mild pinching and pressure during the injections. The entire treatment takes about 30-60 minutes. After the procedure, patients can resume normal activities immediately with minimal downtime.
It is expected to experience some mild swelling, redness, and tenderness around injection sites for a day or two. Crusting along the injection spots may also develop and persist for several days as the injections absorb into the scalp. It typically takes about 2-3 weeks to start seeing the initial results of thicker, fuller hair. Optimal results develop after completing a course of 3-6 PRP treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Patients can expect the benefits to last about 1-2 years before a maintenance session is needed to sustain results.
What Can PRP Hair Restoration Do for You?
- • Increased hair thickness and fullness: One of the main benefits of PRP is thicker, more voluminous hair growth. The growth factors in PRP stimulate follicles to produce thicker, fuller strands of hair, making areas that have experienced thinning or balding appear denser.
- • Hair regrowth: PRP can stimulate regrowth in areas of the scalp that have experienced moderate hair loss. Regrowth is most noticeable in the frontal and crown regions.
- • Slowed hair loss: The proteins and growth factors in PRP are thought to prolong the growth phase of hair. This helps counteract the shrinking of follicles that causes male and female pattern baldness. Ongoing treatments can prevent future hair loss.
- • Improved hair quality: PRP improves the overall health and quality of hair. Hair feels and looks stronger, smoother, and shinier after treatments with reduced breakage.
- • Natural results: Since PRP utilizes the patient's own plasma, results look natural.
